WUBC Custom Toile

A custom toile pattern created through hand-drawn illustrations, capturing 100 years of West University Baptist Church history through detailed, story-driven imagery.

This project involved designing a custom toile pattern for West University Baptist Church in Houston, using hand-drawn illustrations to represent key people, places, and moments from the church’s 100-year history. Each element—from architectural landmarks to notable figures—was carefully illustrated and arranged into a cohesive repeating pattern, allowing the design to function both as a narrative piece and a decorative surface.

Inspired by traditional toile fabrics, the composition balances detailed linework with intentional spacing and rhythm, creating a pattern that feels both classic and contemporary. The work also draws subtle influence from modern interpretations of toile, incorporating a broader range of subjects and storytelling elements. Multiple color variations were developed to adapt the pattern for different applications, while maintaining the integrity of the original hand-drawn style and historical significance.
